Hilo on the Big Island will also have a 4th of July fireworks display. I took the following info off of the calendar at konaweb.com

July 4, 2008
4TH OF JULY FIREWORKS - HILO
There will be evening fireworks displays at 3 spots in Hilo: On and along the Bayfront Highway and beach area; the soccer fields along Kamehameha Avenue; & Queen Liliuokalani Park. Call Roxie Waltjen, County of Hawaii, Dept. Parks & Recreation, Culture & The Arts for more info, at (808) 961-8706.

A few years ago when I went to the Hilo 4th of July celebration, there was also a Japanese Bon dance afterwards in the pavilion. Of course I danced:) There were also food booths but I was disappointed that they had run out of the mochiko chicken. So go early if you plan on buying dinner there!

Thank you Dave for those fantastic tips! I meant to look up Star of Honolulu earlier to see what they had going on. It looks like they have some nice cruises on the 3rd and 4th. http://www.starofhonolulu.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=251&Itemid=648

(Unless you have a room with a great view) In my opinion… The best place to watch the fireworks is from a boat like a dinner cruise. Almost every island has something like that. There are several dinner cruises on Oahu that have a special “Fireworks Cruises”. All of them are amazingly romantic and not only give you an unobstructed view of the fireworks and city lights but you also get served good food and avoid the crowds.

The second best place to watch the fireworks on Oahu is from Sand Island. It’s directly across the harbor from Aloha Tower. You get unobstructed views and no crowds. If you go there, you can expect to see a lot of local families camped out with their BBQ’s. That’s where I’ll be. ;)
