Hawaii Vacation News & Deals Roundup: December 17, 2009

Two Palm Trees Enjoying Lanai Sunset

I think you’ll find that today’s roundup has an airy feeling to it.

* As I mentioned in the last roundup, there are plenty of nationwide airfare deals to Hawaii. Yesterday, TravelZoo announced these specials.

* A few days ago when I published the Oahu New Years Eve guide to what’s happening, you may have noticed that the Waikiki Beach New Year’s Eve fireworks were pending. I have good news to pass along to you from our friends at the Waikiki Improvement Association, the fireworks show has been confirmed!

* For my fellow Carolinians, today is the day for the inaugural US Airways direct flight from Charlotte to Honolulu. The flying time to Honolulu is just over 10 hours and the return flight takes approximately 9 hours. That may sound long, but it’s really a time saver.

* Continental Airlines is adding new flight service from Orange County to Maui beginning in March.

* Check out this video footage of modern day gladiators on surfboards battling the monster waves of Oahu’s Waimea Bay last week.

  1. A direct flight from Charlotte to Honolulu? Nice! Too bad it’s not on Hawaiian Airlines (Best airline EVER!)
