Waikiki is a very popular destination to visit for the Thanksgiving holiday. While many North American residents will be dressed for chilly weather, Honolulu visitors will be donning swimsuits, shorts and Aloha shirts for Waikiki’s endless summer weather!
Not only will the weather be summer-like, the restaurants will be serving scrumptious Thanksgiving meals. Many of them will have a Hawaiian-spin with local ingredients on their special Thanksgiving menus. It’s a neat blend of traditional Thanksgiving fixings married with Hawaiian cuisine.
Now, if you are one of the lucky ones planning a trip to Waikiki over this Thanksgiving, we’ve created this guide for where to dine and what special events to catch over Thanksgiving weekend.
Know Hawaii’s and Oahu’s COVID Restrictions
Before we get into some of the special Thanksgiving meals and events for the holiday weekend, we want to make sure you know about some of the significant COVID restrictions in Hawaii and Oahu.
First, before you travel to Hawaii, make sure you are fully aware of and follow Hawaii’s travel rules so that you can bypass the 10-day quarantine. Another statewide rule is an indoor mask mandate.
Next, visitors need to be aware of the specific rules that Oahu has for access to restaurants, bars, gyms, museums, concerts, etc. On Oahu, fully vaccinated customers are allowed at restaurants, bars, gyms, museums. Non-vaccinated customers must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within the previous 48 hours. These rules apply to persons age 12 years and up. Waikiki Thanksgiving Buffets
The following Waikiki Beach restaurants are offering special Thanksgiving dinner buffets. Most of the including traditional Thanksgiving fare with turkey and traditional Thanksgiving sides. If a restaurant has an ocean view, we make note of that.
— Rock-A-Hula has a special Thanksgiving Dinner and Show presentation. It includes dinner and show.
— Chart House has Thanksgiving Buffet for $42 adult/ $19 child. This restaurant has harbor/ocean views.
Waikiki Thanksgiving A La Carte & Prix-Fixe (Set Menu) Dining
The following Waikiki Beach restaurants are offering Thanksgiving-themed menus for dining at the restaurant. In some cases the restaurant’s standard, a la carte menu will also be available.
— Duke’s Waikiki at the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort: Thanksgiving plated lunch special from 11am to 3pm for $36. Take out options are also available. This restaurant is oceanfront. Added 11/18
— Eating House 1849 By Roy Yamaguchi at the International Market Place: Thanksgiving three-course dinner for $43. See this link and click on the Thanksgiving arrow under menus to see this special prix-fixe dinner special.
— TBD Hawaii is located near the foot of Diamond Head. It would be a bit of a walk or a very short cab ride from Waikiki hotels. Their four-course Thanksgiving Dine In menu is priced at $99 per person. See the menu here.

— Shor at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort: Thanksgiving-Meals-To-Go with options including turkey, ham or ribeye roast. Note that their meals feed five or more. See the menu options on page two here.

Holiday events and things to see and do in Waikiki over Thanksgiving weekend
– The Royal Hawaiian Center in Waikiki holds their annual Holiday Kick Off event on Wednesday, November 24th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. This festive event includes a special visit from Santa who will be leading the lighting of the center’s 34-foot Christmas tree. Free photos with Santa will be available.
– If you like Black Friday shopping deals, you might want to check out Ala Moana Center, which is Hawaii’s biggest shopping center. See this list of special Black Friday offers at participating stores.
– Waikiki Holiday Parade – unfortunately the parade is cancelled for 2021. Organizers tell us they hope to hold the parade again in 2022.
— Most of the “to-go” turkey meals for take out/away need to be pre-ordered at least a day or two before Thanksgiving Day.
