Hawaii Vacation News Roundup for August 7th

  • The Hawaii Channel has some tremendous video of the newest Kilauea volcano lava flow.  The raw video was shot from a helicopter over the weekend at sunset.  The video lasts about eight minutes and has some pretty spectacular shots throughout. The flow is reported to be 100 feet wide and one mile long.  Wow!

  • Where will you find more than 1,000 orchid plants on display?  That would be at the 55th Annual Hilo Orchid Society Show and Sale beginning this Friday. The three-day event will be held in Hilo on the Big Island at the Edith Kanakaole Multi-Purpose Stadium.  Admission is by donation at the door.  For more information call 808-933-9772.

  • If you’re into surfing, make plans to welcome in the big wave season at the North Shore Festival.  The celebration will take place in historic Haleiwa on Oahu’s North Shore.  Arts, crafts, culinary treats, live music and cultural performances will be featured at the event.  The North Shore Festival will run from 12 noon to 10 p.m. November 10th and 11th and admission is free.  To read more about it, see this announcement from Global Surf News

  1. My husband would just love your blog. He has been wanting to go to Hawaii forever. Our 10th anniversary is this year and we need to go somewhere.
