Hi Danna - That's a very good question and I'm not sure if there is a correct answer. Here's some food for thought:
- it was difficult for me to find reviews of the Wailea Marriott luau and they really don't carry much information about it on their own website. Just speaking from my personal experience, the lack of information kind of scares me.
- There's probably a little bit of cheesiness in every luau.
- In my opinion, I'd go to one of the West Maui luaus....I'd put the Old Lahaina Luau, the Feast at Lele, and the Sheraton Kaanapali Sunset luau on the top of my list.

I hope this helps. I'd love for others to chime with their opinion.

Please let us know what you choose and how you liked it. Have a wonderful time in Maui!

Hi, We will be on Maui the last half of April staying in Kihei. We have heard mixed reviews about the Marriott Wailea show (some have said it was cheesy) and are wondering if we should make the extra effort to attend a West Maui Luau. Do you have an opinion. We are there on a girls trip so we are looking for one that is fun with great entertainment, food & drink. Any opinions would be gratefully appreciated.

Hi there,

I'm leaving for Maui on Wednesday and am wondering if there are any free luaus(cultural activiites) on the West side.

Thanks,

Hi Kris - Thanks for adding your Maui luau insight. It's nice to hear that you had good experiences at both luaus. I've been hearing quite a bit of nice things about the Sheraton Kaanapali Sunset Luau. One thing they have that the others don't is the cliff diver, which is quite impressive.

We've done both the Old Lahaina Luau and the Sheraton Ka'anapali Sunset Luau thus far on our visits to Maui. The Old Lahaina Luau, as Lissete pointed out, hosts a ton of people and it is almost like a well-oiled machine with how they run everything like clockwork. The Sheraton luau, on the other hand, was much smaller and hand more of an ohana feel to it.

I think it's worth noting that each of these luaus offer up different experiences and slightly different atmospheres and scenery. We like to take in at least one luau every trip, and we tell people it's definitely not a "seen one, seen them all" type of attraction.

Hi Lissete - thanks for sharing your experience at Old Lahaina Luau. I really enjoyed that one. Hopefully you'll get back to Hawaii soon whether you plan a luau or not. :)

Great list! We have only been to OLL and it was great. Although it is a buffet serving a ton of people, everything worked like clockwork. We did not make long lines for anything! We probably will not "do" a luau next time but it's nice to have such great info in one place. Just in case ;)
