Can you tell us the benefits of taking this ferry? Any faster, safer, etc?

odysses99 – not really cheaper or faster than flights. There is an airfare war going on now and you can easily pick up inter-island tickets for $39 one way. There are also more flights to choose from.
The ferry ride takes about 3 hours and a flight will take less than an hour.
The main advantages of the superferry are that you can bring your car and you aren’t as confined as you are in a plane. It adds another option for travelers. Some people are terrified of flying, so the option of a ferry is a welcomed addition.

It will be interesting to see how this goes. I’m sure they’ll do well in the beginning. However, after the novelty wears off, I’m not sure how many people will want to spend 3 hours getting to Maui when a plane takes 20 minutes.

Kailani – I agree with you. I read that the cost of the ferry was around $75 million, so that’s going to take a whole bunch of passengers to pay for the vessel as well as the operating costs. Only time will tell how successful it will be.
