Aloha Friday Photo: Waimea Canyon Lookout Re-opened

Mahalo to Dorothy Sinclair for sharing this colorful Aloha Friday Photo.

Dorothy took this photo from Kauai’s Waimea Canyon Lookout. After more than a month-long closure due to Hurricane Lowell, access to this scenic spot reopened this past Saturday.

Thankfully, Dorothy was able to visit this scenic spot on the very day it reopened. She described the canyon as “Much better in person.” We agree. Photos just can’t fully capture how interesting, how wide, and how colorful the canyon is.

While it’s wonderful that this lookout reopened, much of Waimea Canyon State Park and the adjacent Koke’e State Park remain closed to the public. To give you a glimpse of what the state is up against in terms of restoring access to Koke’e, check out the following photo that was taken days after Hurricane Lowell impacts. We hope that debris removal and repairs can be done safely and quickly.

Happy Aloha Friday!
