Aloha Friday Photo: Bidding a fond aloha to Holei Sea Arch

Sometime between September 23 and 27, Holei Sea Arch collapsed into the ocean as confirmed by Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The 90-foot arch was always a marvelous sight to see at the bottom of Chain of Craters Drive.

With thanks to the photographer, Travis McClure, we originally featured the above photo for Aloha Friday Photos on March 29, 2019.  In that article, we shared a quote about Holei Sea Arch’s precarious future from the national park’s website. Let’s look at that quote again:

“At present, the sea arch is about 90 ft. (27.4 meters) high. The creation of this sea arch was within the last 100 years. This beautiful formation has a limited life span. The sea arch will eventually crumble and will no longer be a feature of the park.”

Well, sadly, the day has come that the arch has vanished. We bid a fond aloha to Holei Sea Arch.
