Kim’s shot is from the summit of Haleakala on the island of Maui. Though dormant now, the summit’s landscape speaks of the volcano’s eruptive past and centuries of erosion.

When you think of Maui, scenes like this one don’t immediately come to mind. Even so, including a visit to see Haleakala’s summit will leave an indelible mark on your memory of this Mars-like world.
