Aloha Friday Photo: A fascinating volcanic landscape

Mahalo to Cynthia Randolph for this neat Aloha Friday Photo. She didn’t mention where this photo was taken, but my guess is that it’s somewhere off  Kalaniana’ole Highway (HWY 72) on the southeast side of Oahu. More specifically, it’s possibly near the Lana’i Lookout.

The eroded rock formations create a fascinating landscape. I’m not a geologist, but I understand that the tan-colored rock is essentially cemented-volcanic ash, while the black rock is more like basalt lava that is more commonly found throughout Hawaii. This scene sparks curiosity and wonder about the centuries that shaped it.

Happy Aloha Friday!
