Aloha Friday Photo: At the end of a black sand beach

Mahalo to Mary Duran from Lubbock, Texas for sharing this Aloha Friday Photo.

Mary took this photo from a black sand beach along the road to Hana. Our guess is that she likely took this photo from Wai’anapanapa Beach.

At first glance this shot looked like a black and white photo, but it’s not. We can see a touch of blue in the surf.

A black sand beach creates such a dramatic coastline. Wai’anapanapa Beach was the first black sand beach I’ve ever seen. I remember being stunned by its beauty. It is a feast for the eyes.

This beach also has a unique sound, too. The beach has a blend of sand and pebbles. As the surf laps and recedes from the beach, the water makes an interesting sound through the pebbles.

Happy Aloha Friday!
