Aloha Friday Photo: Monk seals playing in Waikiki

Hawaii Baby 814-2

Today’s Aloha Friday Photo was shared by Jeanette from North Carolina. Here’s how she describes her connection to Hawaii and her photo:

Hawaii holds a very special place in my heart.  My husband and I honeymooned there nearly 10 years ago and just a couple years ago we had the opportunity to visit again….

Anyway, I was looking at your Aloha Friday Photos and it reminded me of a photo I took on our last trip that I’d like to share with you.  It is a photo of two beautiful monk seals that just happened to swim up on the beach at the Hilton Hawaiian Village where we were staying!  We were just laying on the beach and they literally came right up on shore and played for a few minutes and then swam away.  It’s a memory I will never forget!

What an amazing experience, Jeanette. Mahalo for sharing your photo and memory!

While we’re talking about Hawaiian monk seals, it’s a good time to remind you that monk seals are endangered and protected in Hawaii. If you see one, do not approach it. Read more about what to do and not to do when you see a monk seal in Hawaii.

  1. This made me smile. I have lived in Hawaii all my life and have never experienced such a thing. That is once in a lifetime! Mahalo for sharing Sheila and Jeanette
