According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the population of the state of Hawaii was 1,288,198 in 2008. That may sound like a large number, but would you believe it’s a very small percentage of the country’s total population? Hawaii only represents 0.42% of the total U.S. population.
According to FactMonster.com, Hawaii’s population ranks as the 42nd out of the 50 states. Want to have a guess as to what eight states have a smaller population than Hawaii?

I could believe that the Hawaii has less than 1% of the population, but the fact that 8 states have smaller populations than HI is a bit of a surprise to me.
