If you’re a fan of Hawaii’s pineapple, there’s sad news today. Maui Land & Pineapple Co. Inc., the state’s last producer of canned pineapple, said yesterday it will end its fruit canning operations June 30.

The move comes as Hawaii faces competition from cheaper suppliers such as Costa Rica and Mexico.

Still, now you have an excuse to visit Hawaii – it’s the only way to taste fresh Hawaiian pineapple!
