Six months of lava fountain eruption episodes at Kilauea Volcano

Today marks the six-month anniversary of the current dazzling eruption phase at Kilauea Volcano on Hawaii’s Big Island. Since December 23, 2024, Kilauea has been erupting with lava fountains reaching heights up to and over 1,000 feet (300 meters)!

In this current episodic eruption phase, there have been 26 different episodes. The duration of these events range from about 4.5 hours to 8.5 days. Most recently, these events have lasting for about 6 to 10 hours.

The time in between eruptions has varied, too. Since May, the eruptions have been spaced out anywhere between 3 days to 10 days.
