Tsunami makes landfall in Hawaii
An 8.8 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Kamchatka, Russia, generated a tsunami that made landfall in the Hawaiian Islands last night. Thankfully, the islands did not experience waves as severe as scientific models predicted and so far there are no significant reports of injuries.
At the time of writing, the islands are still under a tsunami advisory. As such, residents and visitors are advised to monitor local updates and continue to stay away from the coastline until the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issues an “all clear” notice.
