When I announced that I had planned another trip to Oahu back in January, James asked if I would take a picture of my breakfast at Cinnamon’s Restaurant in Kailua. Well, I’m happy to report that I can fulfill that request with the photo on the right. James said that, Cinnamon’s is the “[b]est breakfast / brunch, ever. No argument is possible.” After James’ prompting and reviewing the menu, I knew I had to give it a try.
After a sunrise hike on Makapuu Lighthouse Trail, we headed to try Cinnamon’s. It was on a Wednesday morning and we arrived at 9:30am to find that the place was packed. Cinnamon’s is kind of off the beaten tourist path, so we knew we’d found a great restaurant that’s popular with the local residents.
We were able to get seated fairly quickly though making our selections from the menu didn’t come as quickly. I mean, have you seen this menu? How can you choose from all the tempting options? Actually, we had so much trouble deciding what to order that Andy and I ordered four plates! (Hey, cut us some slack, we had just hiked on empty!) I had the Hawaiian Omelette with kalua pork, onions, diced tomatoes and “bits of lau lau ingredients (pork, luau leaves, butterfish)” with a side of hashbrowns. Andy had the Kalua Pork Eggs Benedict with a side of hashbrowns. We were intrigued with the unique pancakes offered at Cinnamon’s. We had trouble deciding between the Guava Chiffon pancakes and the Carrot pancakes. Have you ever seen guava or carrot pancakes on a menu? We hadn’t. Our helpful server said that she could split a stack of two for of each type pancake. Yay! That solved our morning dilemma!
Everything we ordered was fantastic and we would definitely eat there again. We ate our savory items first and then shared the pancakes as a dessert. Both pancakes were delicious. The guava pancakes had a delicate flavor with guava syrup and whipped cream served on top. The carrot pancakes tasted much like a carrot cake as it had pineapple, raisins, and carrots cooked in the batter and they were served with a cream cheese-like thick syrup. (Click this link to see a photo of the aftermath of this breakfast. Can you tell that we liked everything?)
We think the trip to Cinnamon’s Restaurant was well worth the trip. It was our best breakfast on Oahu. Thank you, James, for the recommendation!

The folks at Cinnamon's understand that when it comes to breakfast, there's no such thing as too much food. Pic:

Yum! Now I'm hungry! LOL! Thanks, Sheila, for filling us in! Never been there but you can bet we will! :)
@ James - we didn't leave hungry!
@ Evelyn - I definitely think it's worth a try. Let me know what you think of it when you go.
We just ate the same breakfast this week! The DH and I shared the Hawaiian omelette "local style" with a side of guava pancakes. Yum! We didn't waste a bite. Now we need to go back and try the carrot pancakes...tomorrow!
I know this post is a bit old, but my wife and I are planning our honeymoon now and we are leaving mid october. I think we might try and catch a Sunrise at Makapuu Lighthouse Trail and Breakfast at Cinnamon's. What do you recommend for the afternoon in the area?
Nigel - you have plenty of options. Here are some ideas:
- Lanikai Beach is very very close to Cinnamons https://www.govisithawaii.com/2009/05/19/lanikai-beach-one-of-oahus-most-beautiful-beaches/
- Byodo-in Temple is nearby (maybe about 20 minutes drive) https://www.govisithawaii.com/2009/08/25/oahus-byodo-in-temple/
- Hop on 83 and drive up to the North Shore, not missing these sights:

and an afternoon shave ice at Matsumotos: https://www.govisithawaii.com/2007/06/22/hawaii-shave-ice-rocks/
Another idea is to catch the evening show at the Polynesian Cultural Center in Laie. I've not seen the new one yet, but I hear it's fantastic.
