Aloha Friday Photo: Spectacular Kilauea Eruption Episode 34

Mahalo to Kevin Tanis for sharing this jaw-dropping photo and videos of the latest Kilauea eruption for Aloha Friday Photos.

Since December 2024, Kilauea has been active off and on in a series of episodic eruptions. Every eruption is truly amazing, but there seemed to be something extra special about Episode 34 from Wednesday morning.

Though relatively short-lived at just over six hours of fountaining, I understand that the height of this eruption was the highest yet in this series. Get this, experts estimate that it reached heights of over 1,300 feet (approximately 400 meters)!  Big Island Video News created a great summary of Episode 34.

Kevin and his wife have been visiting Hawaii from Utah. It’s their first visit and wow, oh wow, were they ever treated to this incredible sight in the early morning hours of October 1st. They happened to wake up and check the USGS Kilauea webcam at 3:00 a.m. to discover that the eruption had begun. Luckily they were staying nearby so that they could quickly to drive over to Hawaii Volcanoes Park.

You’ve got to check out the videos that Kevin kindly posted to our Facebook page. I hope these links will work:

We are truly grateful to Kevin and his wife for sharing the amazing photo and videos mazing!

Happy Aloha Friday!
