Hawaii vacation news and deals: July 23, 2025

This Hawaii vacation deals and news roundup includes news about construction work and closures at Waimea Canyon and Koke’e parks, a Waikiki hotel deal, news about Kilauea volcano, a Hawaii vacation sweepstakes and more.

* The Hawaii Division of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) announced construction work at Kauai’s Waimea Canyon and Koke’e State Parks. Unfortunately, Waimea Canyon Lookout will be closed during this project, which is expected to last through early December 2025. The DLNR also says, “This closure, in addition to several overlapping roadwork projects by both DOT-Highways and DLNR-State Parks, will cause delays, impact traffic patterns, and restrict overall parking capacity in these two popular parks through the end of the year. DOT work is continuing on Waimea Canyon Drive, while work on portions of Koke’e Road from the Kalalau Lookout to Pu’u o Kila lookout will be starting the same week. Visitors can drive as far as the Kalalau Lookout, where improvements will also be initiated on July 17, with limited parking available. We urge patience and driving with care as these various improvements are ongoing. Local visitors are encouraged to enjoy these parks on weekends, when most work will be suspended.”

* Travelzoo has a deal for a stay in the Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach with room rates starting at $209 per night with some perks and a reduced ($15 versus $38) facility fee.

* Hawaii Food and Wine Festival, along with Hawaiian Airlines and OUTRIGGER Waikiki Paradise Hotel, are hosting a Hawaii vacation sweepstakes to win a trip for two to Oahu this fall when the festival takes place. You can enter to win from this link. This sweepstakes is open to legal residents of the 50 United States who are age 21 years or older at the time of entry collection.

* Episode 29 of the ongoing Kilauea eruption happened earlier this week. This particular eruption was a bit different with lower fountaining (300-ish feet high versus more than 1,000 feet high). Could this episode signal a change in the patterns observed since these episodes began in December 2024? See this video for a summary with fascinating footage of episode 29.

* We send our aloha and very best wishes to Mike and Kathy Carroll who are retiring from Mike Carroll Gallery in Lana’i.
