Starting today, a few test markets will be able to have a taste of Hawaii in a new Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor. After holding a company strategy meeting on Kauai in January, officials were inspired to create a new ice cream flavor that combines two great, yet unexpected flavors that contrast and compliment each other. In a press release, Ima M. Uppet, V.P. of New Flavorage, says, “Our new Hawaii inspired Pineapple and Poi flavor should whisk you away to a Hawaiian luau when you take the first bite.” The list of test markets has not yet been released. I’m headed to my local grocery store to see if my town is included. Are you excited about trying Pineapple and Poi? Please comment.

I heard they were randomly packaging little gold tickets to Hawaii, a la Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, is this true? Can you ask Mr. Uppet? 🙂
Any word yet if it’s “three finger poi?” I only like the good stuff mixed with my pineapple! 😉
@ Jim – No I’ve not heard that tidbit, yet. Wowza! I left a voicemail for Ima M. Uppet to confirm. Stay tuned. 🙂
@ Andy – Ben & Jerry’s only uses the best ingredients, so I’d imagine they are using three finger poi. Please keep your fingers crossed that we live in the test market. We’ll be able to check the label to verify if it’s two or three finger poi. 🙂
I’m definitely game. Especially if there’s a *chance* to win a trip to my ku’u one hanai. Yummy! i can’t wait to try it!
Since pineapple is my favorite flavor, fruit and design, I’m certainly game, but I’ve got to tell you that I’ll reserve judgment on the poi — not my favorite flavor from Hawaii.
Ar you sure it’s not Spam flavored ice cream??
But seriously, poi is not my favorite. Although, taro rolls are quite nice. And if they came up with POG ice cream or sherbert, I would be the 1st in line 🙂
@ JulieAnn – isn’t it great how any little taste of Hawaii we can get, we go for it?
@ Sheila B – I love the fresh fruit like pineapple and papaya in Hawaii, but I have to admit, I’m not a big poi fan. I don’t think it tastes bad…it just doesn’t taste great to me.
@Lissete – I LOVE those taro rolls, too! I don’t understand why they taste so great, yet poi tastes so/so.
OK all – confession time….this Pineapple and Poi Ben & Jerry’s is actually my silly attempt at an April Fools Day prank. Sorry and thanks for bearing with me! 🙂
Well you sure got me!!! LOL That’s OK because I thought all day that the art of April Fools Day had gone missing….
Well, since we’re talking about ice cream anyway, I’d throw out there my favorite (mainland available) ice cream that brings me back to the islands. It would have to be the Haagen-Dazs Pineapple Coconut flavor (http://www.haagen-dazs.com/products/product.aspx?id=343), mainly from stopping at the Haagen-Dazs store in Whalers Village on Maui about every other day while on vacation. Mmmm…
They also have a localized favorite, White Chocolate Macadamia Nut, but I couldn’t find it on their website.
@ Sheila B – Thanks for being such a great sport about it!
@ Kris – White chocolate mac nut ice cream….now you’re talkin’! I don’t know if you have a Cheesecake Factory restaurant near you, but they make an awesome white chocolate, caramel, mac nut cheesecake. OK…now I’m getting hungry. 🙂
Um, I think I’ll pass. LOL!
Kailani – hehe – was it the pineapple or the poi that put you off? 🙂
