Mahalo to Bill and Pattie Sherrill for sharing this neat Aloha Friday Photo. We’ve seen a lot of photos of Rainbow Falls in Hilo, but this particular perspective is an interesting one with only the top of the falls in view.
We can tell from the shiny foliage and waterfall that the area has recently had rain. Hilo has one of the rainier climates in Hawaii, which nurtures the verdant landscapes and supplies the waterfall flow.
We’ve seen Rainbow Falls in various levels of flow. In one visit, we only saw a trickle. So, while rain may seem off putting, it can definitely be a blessing.
In our Hawaii packing guide, we recommend bringing a lightweight, breathable, waterproof jacket along with you for sightseeing in Hawaii. We also recommend wearing quick-drying clothes just in case you get caught in a shower. That way, you’ll be more comfortable and confident to get out to see misty scenes like this one at Rainbow Falls.
Happy Aloha Friday!
