We’ve got quite a long roundup of Hawaii vacay news, so let’s dive in!

US Government Shutdown Effects on Hawaii Travel and Attractions

Travel to and from Hawaii has continued as normal. National and state parks have mostly been open, though with some limited closures or reduced services. See the latest statement on the shutdown from GoHawaii.com for more specific details.

Hawaiian Airlines Fare Sale – Starting at $119 one-way

It’s been a while since we’ve seen much of a fare sale on Hawaiian Airlines, but they announced a sale through October 9, 2025. Here’s the link to check out the sale: one-way flights to/from Hawaii starting at $119 (affiliate).

Southwest Gift Card Deal

Via Sam’s Club, you can purchase a $500 Southwest gift card for $464.95. That’s $10 off their standard deal.

Tours of Kalaupapa National Historical Park Resume

After more than a five-year hiatus, tours to Kalaupapa National Historical Park on Molokai have resumed. The only method of touring is flying into and out of the Kalaupapa peninsula through the airport with an organized tour with SeaWinds.

Years ago, you could take a tour of Kalaupapa via the scenic and thrilling cliffside Kalaupapa Trail. The mule rides ceased in April 2018 due to a dispute. Then in December 2018, a landslide damaged the trail and it’s been closed since then.

Hotel Deals

These Hawaii hotel offers are very good deals:

  • TravelZoo has a deal for the Kaimana Beach Hotel, which is located at the foot of Diamond Head at Waikiki. With the deal rates start at $199 per night, resort fees are waived, and you get a food and beverage credit.
  • The newly renovated OUTRIGGER Kona Resort & Spa has a “never-ending summer in Kona” deal with daily rates starting from $299, no resort fees ($35 daily value), complimentary self-parking fee ($30 daily value), and a $50 daily food credit. The promo code is SUMMER.

Amazon Prime Day Deals

I’ve been stocking up on some Prime Day deals. Here are some good buys for Hawaii travelĀ  and beyond:

  • I am a mosquito magnet, so insect repellent is a must for me when I travel to Hawaii. I prefer the convenience of pre-moistened wipes. In addition to being handy on the go, because we like to travel with just carry-on luggage, another bonus of wipes is that they don’t have to go into the liquids ziplock bag. These insect repellent wipes are on a Prime Day deal.
  • One of my travel must haves is Xlear nasal spray. The dry air on flights tends to make my nasal passages uncomfortably dry, but this nasal spray is moisturizing, cleansing and protecting from pollutants and other unwanted issues. It’s on a great Prime Day deal for less than $10 per bottle with a two-pack purchase.
  • Now is a time to buy premium sunglasses. We recommend purchasing polarized sunglasses. Many Ray-Ban glasses are on an excellent sale. Another quality brand is Oakley, which is also on sale.
