Hawaii vacation news: Southwest coming to Hawaii + Whales are back!

In the past 48 hours, there’s been a couple big Hawaii vacation news items pop up.

– Southwest Airlines announced they will begin flying to and from Hawaii. They’ve not provided a specific time frame or indicated routes. Ticket sales will begin in 2018. This low-cost airline will definitely create some competition which may result in better fares all around. Here’s the Hawaii News Now segment about this big news announcement.

– The first humpback whale sighting was on October 10th signaling the start of this exciting season. The crew aboard Pacific Whale Foundation’s Ocean Spirit saw two whales off the coast of Kapalua in West Maui. They posted a photo and also a video of these two whales.

– Now that we’ve had the first humpback whale sighting, we can pick the winner of our annual prediction contest. Congratulations to Celia Criss from Oregon for guessing the closest date without going over.
