Earth Day 2011 — Care for Hawaii’s Sea Life

In the spirit of Earth Day, I thought I’d recycle an Earth Day post from the past. Caring for Hawaii’s sea life is still very important.

Let’s consider the very important topic of protecting Hawaii’s reefs, fish, and marine mammals when you visit. This entertaining video

with excellent underwater footage is narrated by a fish. Listen to the story they would tell if they could only talk.

I do encourage you to watch the video, but if you don’t have the time, please honor these recommendations:

– Don’t touch or step on coral as it can damage and even destroy coral

– Don’t feed the fish as it causes an imbalance. (See my post on why you shouldn’t feed fish

.)

– Keep a respectful distance from sea turtles, dolphins and fish. Let them decide how close they want to get to you.

  • Mahalo for posting this cute and informative video. The Hawaiian Islands are a beautiful and unique place in our world. One-third of the underwater life is found nowhere else on the planet!

As a scuba diver, Hawaii is very special to me. Where else can you hear whale song underwater and observe sea turtles as big as your kitchen table?

The underwater world is a place like no other - especially in Hawaii. Please help us take care of it for future generations!
