Hawaiian Proverb: I mohala no ka lehua i ke ke’ekehi ‘ia e ka ua.

Yellow Lehua Blossom

I love the wisdom of proverbs and I recently came across this site with a list of Hawaiian proverbs

. One of my favorite Hawaiian proverbs is:

I mohala no ka lehua i ke ke’ekehi ‘ia e ka ua.

Translation: The Lehua blossom unfolds when the rains tread on it.

Explanation: People respond better to gentle words than to scoldings.

Wouldn’t you agree?
