The 2009 Vans Triple Crown of Surfing Competitions are on!

Whether you’re a surfer or a surfer-admirer, like myself, you’ll enjoy watching the experts power through the big waves of Oahu’s North Shore at the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing. This competition is the most prestigious surfing event in the world.

Please be warned that watching these events can become very addicting. When Andy and I caught a surfing competition at the famous Pipeline of Ehukai Beach back in February, we could hardly tear ourselves away.

From the above banner, you can see the dates for the three competitions. You can also check this page to find the status of the latest events. The waves haven’t been high enough in recent days, but a swell is predicted to hit the North Shore today.

Not on Oahu? No problem! You can watch the events live as they happen from your computer. Use this link to access the live stream. Just make note of the time difference between your home and Hawaii as you take a peek at the events.

Be sure to explore the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing videos and photos for more great stuff on Oahu’s North Shore during surfing season. The North Shore definitely takes on a completely different atmosphere when the big waves are on this time of year. I love it!

  1. If you’ve never seen 30ft waves in person, then you can’t imagine how powerful they are, even standing on the beach. Getting in the water is a whole different thing. Having done both, I can say for sure – it’s worth the trip to Hawaii just to see them!

    1. Tony – When I saw the big waves earlier this year, I was too scared to get close enough to dip my toe in the water. 🙂

  2. Was on Oahu’s north shore this summer and the water was so calm. Hope to go back one day to see the ocean this time of year. Looks awesome!
