Have you ever been snapping a photo at a scenic spot in Hawaii while wishing there was a rainbow in view? Have you ever gone to Hawaii without seeing a rainbow? Well, that issue will be a thing of the past with the new joint venture with Hawaii Tourism Authority and the University Of Hawaii at Manoa Department of Physics.
The two are teaming up on Project Rainbows On Demand.With Project Rainbows on Demand (PROD), Rainbow Generators will be strategically placed at two or three of the most scenic spots on each island. Visitors to these spots will be able to push a button and within three minutes a rainbow will be visible, perfectly enhancing the scene and your photos.
Dr. Suchandsuch, Physics Professor at University of Hawaii at Manoa, explains the technology of the Rainbow Generators:
“The Rainbow Generators optimize light refraction with a combination of misting guns and high intensity light bulbs. We’ve determined the ideal angle for mist and light projection to create a strategically placed rainbow. What most of our physics colleagues from around the world find most fascinating is that we’ve been able to perfect these light reflection angles from ground level so that the equipment can be hidden, therefore not distracting from the scenery.”
Hawaii Tourism Authority executives are obviously very excited about PROD. One executive, Mr.. Cometohi, said,
“We think that rainbows on demand will only enhance our visitors’ experiences. We believe that visitors will capture beautiful photos of our most scenic locations with rainbows. Then, they’ll share their amazing photos with their friends and family, making them jealous and wanting to come to Hawaii for their own epic photos.”
Though the technology is very far along in development, more work and studies must be completed before manufacturing the Rainbow Generators for each of the islands. At the moment the two biggest issues are making the equipment weather resistant and determining the logistics of refilling the misting guns. PROD is estimated to be completed by April Fools Day
