We continue our series of Hawaii In Contrasts
with a visit to a couple of very different Hawaii’s beaches. First, let’s look at a deserted beach on Lana’i, Polihua Beach. We had this two-mile long beach all to ourselves after taking a four-wheel drive adventure on Lanai.Now compare that quiet beach to Oahu’s people watching mecca, Waikiki Beach.

Definitely deserted. While we are on the beach subject.... me and my fiance are getting married in Oahu on April 29, 2010. Do you have any recommendations for the quiet beaches close to waikiki with great views? Any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks!

@ Christine - Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! Depending on the time of day that you want to have your wedding, Waikiki Beach can actually be quiet, believe it or not. At about 5:30, it's really pretty quiet. Then there are sections of Waikiki Beach that are more quiet than others.
As for suggestions for a beach near Waikiki that might be a bit more quiet - Ala Moana Beach Park is nearby. Also, consider Kakaoko Waterfront Park that gives you ocean views, though it doesn't really have a sandy beach area. I'm a fan of the secluded spots, with Hamoa Beach passed Hana on Maui being my favorite deserted beach. When I can walk a beach and shot photos like there's no one there, it's such an amazing feeling.
