2009 Easter Events in Hawaii

Are you going to Hawaii for Easter weekend this year? If you are, then you’ll find many special events for the holiday. If you’ve not yet made your plans, then it’s not too late. I actually only made my plans a week ago and had no problems getting the flights and the accommodations I wanted. Here’s a taster of some of the special events and buffets that are happening on the islands for this Easter weekend.

Oahu

  • Royal Hawaiian will host an Easter egg hunt with two pink-tailed Royal Hawaiian bunnies at 9am on the Ocean Lawn on Easter Sunday. The hunt is free of charge for hotel and restaurant guest. After the hunt you can listen to live Hawaiian music and watch hula dancers while enjoying an extensive brunch buffet at the Monarch Room. Scheduled seatings are at 9am, 11am or 1pm and the cost is $78 for adults including a complimentary glass of champagne. The buffet price for children ages 5 to 12 years is $58.50. Children 4 years and under are free with a paying adult. Click this link
    for more information.
  • On Easter morning, the Royal Hawaiian Band will perform at Punchbowl (National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at 2177 Puowaina Drive) for a sunrise service. The service begins at 6:15am.
  • If you are looking for a peaceful escape, they consider heading up to the North Shore to Turtle Bay Resort for a special Easter Brunch in the Kuilima Ballroom. The brunch includes waffle and omelet stations, prime rib, banana foster and live entertainment. This buffet will be served from 10am to 3pm and the price is $42 for adults and $21 for children 12 and under. For more information, call 808-293-6000.

Maui

  • Lahaina Cannery Mall has invited the Easter Bunny to visit from 10am to 3pm on Saturday, April 11. Kids can have their photo taken with the Easter Bunny. A keiki hula, face painting, magic show, and Easter basket prizes will also take place. See this link for the schedule of events.
  • For something unique, consider taking the 45-minute ferry ride over to Lanai for a lavish Easter Sunday Brunch at the Four Seasons Resort Lanai – The Lodge at Koele. The brunch includes five separate stations and here are just a small sampling of the menu items that sounded exceptionally good: Pineapple, coconut Pancakes, Roast Pork Loin with Pineapple Raisin Stuffing, Roasted Leg of Lamb with Rosemary Jus, Dim Sum Display, Kona Coffee and Chocolate Mousse Cake. The cost for adults is $65 per person and $32.50 for children under the age of 12 years.
  • The Sheraton Maui is hosting an Easter brunch buffet from 9:30am to 2pm. At 9:30am, kids can participate in an Easter Egg Hunt. Then, at 11am, there’s a Rubber Duckie Race. The buffet price is $40 for adults and $20 for children ages 5 – 12. See this link for more information.
  • The Ritz-Carlton Kapalua will host Celebration of the Arts April 10 – 12 including a a few special Easter events. See the entire schedule here.

Hawaii’s Big Island

  • Waikoloa Beach Resort will host the Easter Bunny and hold a Easter Egg Hunt at the Queens’ MarketPlace on Saturday, April 11. See this link
for the schedule of events and more information.

Again, this list is only a sampling of the the types of special events you’ll find on the islands this Easter weekend. I have only listed the events that caught my eye either from my inbox or from my Web searches. Check directly with the resort staff where you’ll be staying to find out what special events they’ll offer. The staff should also be able to direct you to religious services, as well. If you know of other events that caught your eye, please share them in the comments.
