Hawaii Vacation News Roundup for December 13th
- Yay! Yay! Yay! The Mauna Kea Beach Hotel on the Big Island is planned to reopen next December. The earthquake in October, 2006 caused significant structural damage. Their top notch golf course being renovated and is set to reopen next November.
- A new book, Dramas of Kalalau, has just come out that includes interviews and stories from the people who live in the Kalalau Valley, per KHON. Have you heard about these people? I’ve never met one, but I’ve heard tales about them. Let’s just say, they’re a fascinating lot.
- The newly renovated and renamed Hotel Renew in Waikiki is offering a special introductory rate of $149 per night. The rate reflects a 50% discount and is available for stays in December and January. See this link for booking details. All the guest rooms have been renovated, but some common areas are still under construction. (Per www.WaikikiImprovement.com)
- The islands have been pounded with rain in the last week. Maui, in particular, was hit hard including flooding and power outages. Even Haleakala National Park is in the process of assessing some damage to structures and hiking trails.
- The Hawaii Superferry is scheduled to start service from Oahu to/from Maui today. Protests are planned, so we’ll just have to see what happens. I hope it’s all peaceful.
