You might recall seeing the Big Island Film Festival on our list of the top Big Island festivals and celebrations. The Big Island Film Festival is scheduled for May 24 – 28 at the Mauna Lani resort area on the Kohala Coast.

I’ve been informed that the festival has arranged some outstanding travel specials, including accommodations, rental car and flights for the Big Island Film Festival participants. I’ll share the details as follows:

AIRFARE DISCOUNTS

Alaska Airlines has joined the ‘ohana of BIFF supporters, offering with a 7% discount fare on travel May 20-31, 2012 from any US or Canadian city to the Big Island, including direct flights from San Francisco Bay area and Seattle, WA to Kona International Airport. To take advantage of the discount, refer to the following information when visiting www.alaskaair.com

CAR RENTAL DISCOUNTS

Dollar Rent A Car is once again offering special rates to Big Island Film Festival patrons. In addition to 5% discount off their lowest discountable rates (all available car types), use of the code below will waive the additional driver fee (retail $12/day + tax/fees) and also waive the young driver (21-24 years old) fee (retail $27/day + tax/fees).

To use this code: go to www.dollar.com, select the location and dates (this code can actually be used to rent a car at any Dollar Hawai‘i location, except Lanai), then populate the “Corporate” field with BR1796 and press “Get Rates” Reserve as early as possible for maximum savings.

Accommodations at The Fairmont Orchid, Hawai‘i, will be available to BIFF patrons starting at $199 per night. To obtain the special, contact reservations at the hotel directly and ask for the Big Island Film Festival rate. Rates are in effect (space available) for 3 days prior to and following the film festival dates of May 24-28, 2012. Direct reservation number is: The Fairmont Orchid, Hawai‘i: 800-845-9905

The Big Island “Talk Story” Film Festival is a celebration of narrative filmmaking, Memorial Weekend, May 24-28. Events include free family films under the stars at The Shops at Mauna Lani, daytime movies and nightly double features at The Fairmont Orchid, Hawai‘i Plantation Estate, stellar social events, networking opportunities, celebrity receptions, awards brunch and closing night “Best of the Fest.” This final night event includes a fundraiser for the Hawaii Island Food Basket and silent auction for the Wounded Warrior Project supporting America’s veterans.
