Yesterday, I realized that I had blogged about the Hawaiian moorhen after blogging about Kauai’s chickens on Monday. I have to wonder if this Hawaii vacation blog has gone to the birds. 😉
Okay, let’s move on and check out the Hawaii vacation news.
* Oahu’s popular Diamond Head Trail will be closing again for improvements. I was hoping the improvements would include replacing those seemingly endless stairs with an escalator, but, alas there will be no escalator installation in this round of improvements. 😉 The trail will be closed January 10-13, 18-20, 24-28 and again January 31 through February 4. )* Fly to Hawaii in style with Hawaiian Airlines’ sale on first class. You must book by January 18, 2011 for travel between April 12 and June 9, 2011. Here’s a sampling of the round-trip first class airfare sale prices:
* The Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa is celebrating their 20th anniversary with a “20 Years of Sunshine Sale” package. The sale includes your fifth night fee, daily buffet breakfast for two, $20 resort credit per day, and 20% off at both Anara Spa and Poipu Bay Golf Course. See this link for more information.
* Here’s a cool Hawaii cruise combo. It includes a 2 night pre-cruise stay in Honolulu, guided tours, up to $300 shore excursion credit, transfers and a 7-night cruise aboard NCL’s Pride of America. Pricing starts at $1,059 per person. Departure dates range from March 3 through December 29, 2011, but you must book before January 15, 2011. See all about this deal here. (Thanks to my friend Tanya Taylor for sharing this deal!)
* When you visit the Big Island’s Akaka Falls, it’s gonna cost you $5 per car if you’re not a Hawaii resident. Grrr, I don’t like these new fees that only
out-of-state visitors are required to pay.* The islands of Maui, Lanai, Molokai and Kauai have recently banned plastic bags at check-out counters. Paper bags will be offered instead of plastic. Consider being a super savvy visitor by bringing your reusable bags on your vacation. (See Protect Hawaii’s Environment with a Double Duty Beach Bag)
* The very first blog carnival of Aloha for 2011 is up on Homespun Honolulu.

Have you folks ever thought about taking a cruise out to Hawaii? My sister in-law does it about twice a year. She loves it. Both my brother and sister take cruises every time they take a vacation.
I've never been on a cruise before but it sounds like fun.
Hey Dave,
We almost went on a Hawaii cruise in 2008 when we went to Maui and Oahu with my parents.
We have just started dabbling in cruising in the last couple of years -- going to Alaska and the Caribbean.
I think it would be useful to take a Hawaii cruise so that I might be able to offer additional Hawaii vacation advice from personal experience.
great tips as always! The cruise deal sounds really good! My bro-in-law and sister, hubby and I did the NCL cruise. It was a great overview of the Islands and definately the only way (in my opinion) to see mulitiple islands in a short time. You don't waste time traveling (you are sleeping!), you only have to unpack once, meals included etc etc. I recommend you take one for the team Sheila and Andy! :>)
Janet -- I like the way you think! Oh the hardships I must endure for this blog!! ;-)
