My wife and I went to Kauai almost 2+ years ago and the area around Poipu was under construction, making way for new condos and whatnot. I can't wait to hear how it's like now, once all that has been completed!
Jim - there's still quite a bit of construction around, though they aren't eye sores.
There's a nice new shopping center that just opened up. That might have been under construction when you were there. It's by the main roundabout in Poipu.
So when are you coming to Oahu? The Bishop Museum is waiting :)

Karen - when we got on the plane to head back home, we discussed which island we should visit next. Oahu is tops on the list. :) Though, we don't know when. We'll look forward to visiting the Bishop Museum when we get there!
