Mahalo to Ashley Frazier for sharing this excellent shot with us for Aloha Friday Photos.
Ashley took this photo while visiting Oahu in November 2018. In this great capture, you can see the USS Battleship Missouri Memorial, also known as the Mighty Mo, to the left. In the foreground, you can see the USS Arizona Memorial.
Many people see these two Pearl Harbor icons as representations of the start and finish of World War II from the United State’s perspective. The USS Arizona Memorial stands as a reminder of the attack on December 7, 1941, which ultimately led to the United State’s full engagement in the war. The USS Missouri represents an end to the war, because it was aboard this battleship that Japan signed the Instrument of Surrender in Tokyo Bay on September 2, 1945.
