Aloha Friday Photo: View of Ke’e Beach from the Kalalau Trail

Mahalo to Martine Gomez for sharing this beautiful Aloha Friday Photo.

Martine’s photo was taken from Kalalau Trail that runs along the stunning Napali Coast of Kauai. It’s a fairly difficult hike, in total, but this view of Ke’e can be enjoyed early (well within the first half-mile, if I remember correctly) on into the hike. It’s a pretty hefty climb from the start of the trailhead to this point, but as you can see this view is your reward.

Here are some brief nuggets about this famous Kauai hiking trail:

  • The entire length of the trail (one-way) is strenuous 11 miles. A hiking permit is required for anyone hiking beyond the initial two miles of Kalalau Trail.
  • Most people hike the first two miles of the Kalalau Trail and return for a four-mile total. The first two miles provide some lovely views of the coast. The first two miles run from Ke’e Beach to Hanakapi’ai Beach. No hiking permit is required for this initial, two-mile portion, however a visitor/parking reservation is required to access the trail head via Ha’ena State Park and onwards to Napali Coast State Wilderness Park. Learn more here.
  • If you are short on time and personal energy, the first half-mile provides nice views that make the hike worth your effort. Within that first half-mile, you will be able to see the view that’s featured in today’s Aloha Friday Photo.
  • See the state’s official page for the Kalalau Trail.
  • Read our article on hiking the first two miles of the Kalalau Trail.

  • Also totally worth it is hiking 2 miles inland from Hanakapi’ai Beach to Hanakapi’ai Falls!

    • Maybe we need an Aloha Friday Photo of Hanakapi'ai Falls, Jon. (Hint, hint) :-)
