Coronavirus COVID 19

“Safe Access Oahu” starts today – limits restaurants, museums, attractions access to vaccinated or tested visitors

A program designed to reduce COVID-19 infections — “Safe Access Oahu” – starts today, September 13th. It marks a big change in the way visitors will have access to Oahu restaurants, museums and some attractions.

Per the website detailing Safe Access Oahu, “customers must show proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result taken within the previous 48 hours in order to enter the establishment. Children under 12 years old are exempt.” This rule applies to restaurants, bars, gyms, movie theaters, museums, arcades and other similar establishments.

In addition to restaurants, it appears that these rules may be enforced at luaus as well. We noted the Paradise Cove Luau and the luau at the Polynesian Cultural Center are implementing these rules. If you are going to a luau on Oahu, check directly with that luau for their policies.

We thought it would be helpful to highlight some popular visitor attractions where these new rules apply. Here are some examples:

  • Polynesian Cultural Center – link to their policies
  • Waikiki Aquarium
  • Bishop Museum – link to their policies
  • Some Pearl Harbor attractions:
    • Battleship Missouri Memorial
    • Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum (Bowfin)
    • Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum

The above list is not exhaustive, but just a sampling. If you are going to an attraction that we didn’t list, check directly with that site for their policies.

These rules are anticipated to be in place for 60 days. We wouldn’t rule out the possibility of that time period to be lengthened.

All the rules of this program are quite lengthy. See the Safe Access Oahu page for all the details.
