Aloha Friday Photo: Quiet, please … the honu are sleeping

Mahalo to Andrew Casey of Nuriootpa, South Australia for sending this excellent honu photo to us for Aloha Friday Photos

! Here’s what Andrew shared,

Taken at black sand beach on the Big Island.

My first overseas holiday and first encounter with beautiful sea turtles sleeping on the beach.

Those are two wonderful firsts! What an amazing scene with so many honu resting on this black sand beach.

As a reminder, sea turtles are endangered and protected in Hawaii. If you encounter them along a shoreline or in the ocean, let them have their space — at least six feet is recommended.

Happy Aloha Friday!
