Though not free, I’m impressed by this Hawaii Envi app that is designed to help you sightsee Oahu via TheBus system. The cost of that app is $1.99, which is a bargain versus renting and fueling a rental car.
I’m downloading a couple of $0.99 apps that look to be interesting — the Hawaiian Word of the Day and the iVacation Hawaii apps.
One iPhone app that’s not in that list that we routinely use in Hawaii is the free Yelp app to help us find restaurants when we’re in Hawaii as well as our other travels.

Google Earth is a pretty cool way to survey your surroundings.
The photo & video apps are a must-have. I use an app called ReelDirector to edit several video clips together. I use Photogene to correct the color of photographs and I use AutoStitch to create panoramas.

Sheila, I just purchased an Ipod Touch, and BOY! are there apps for Hawaii!! There's Free Maui, Free Kauai, Free Hawaii, Free Oahu (inexpensive things to do on each island), each just $.99, and sooo many more. Just go to the iTunes store and go to the search bar, put in Hawaii and then click on apps, and all these apps are there for you to pick from. My niece is thinking of going this year, and her daughter has an Ipod Touch, so I'm going to direct her to the apps store. I'll get into it later too, when I start planning my next trip the the Isles.
