Hawaii Vacation Deals and News Roundup for September 2nd

I hope you had a nice long weekend.  Now that it has come to a close, it’s time to daydream about a vacation to Hawaii with these deals and newsy tidbits.

  • Evelyn at Homespun Honolulu
has published her blog carnival of aloha first anniversary edition.  She really does a great job with the carnivals each month!
  • Travel-Ticker has some excellent ResortQuest deals for Kauai, Oahu, Maui, and the Big Island.  These outstanding rates are all 15% below rates offered anywhere else online.
  • The popular Waikiki restaurant Eggs ‘n Things closed this weekend.  The restaurant plans to reopen in November in a new location on Saratoga Road (across the street from the Waikiki Post Office.)  Source
  • Looking for a place to stay on Kauai that has history, privacy, and is off the beaten path?  How about checking out the Waimea Plantation Cottages
?  Cheryl Chee Tsutsumi has a nice write-up about this sugar plantation that’s turned into a resort in sunny West Kauai.

  • That's so funny about Eggs 'n Things. I've been trying to go there every time I visit Hawaii, but the line is always too long. So, I tried again, this past Sunday and again there were way too many people standing outside. I was starving so we I ended up going to brunch at the Halekulani which was fantastic.

  • Hi Nathalie - I guess the line was extra long this weekend since people were trying to get in before closing. I bet there was quite a difference in the price of brunch at the Halekulani versus breakfast at Eggs 'n Things! :-)

  • I know!! What a difference right? It was nice because we also got to see a wedding taking place in the courtyard area. I really like that hotel but it's expensive. This time we stayed at the newly renovated Hotel Renew.

  • I like Hotel Renew because it's very small and intimate. It doesn't have the frenzied atmosphere like the other hotels. The decor is really modern and hip. I stayed there in February while construction was going and had a couple of issues that did not get a response from the staff. So I wrote to the manager about our experience and she responded and apologized and sent us a gift certificate for a free night. I was very impressed with her response.

This time around, the construction was complete and it looks great. We didn't have any problems at all. Everyone was very friendly. My only real complaint is that the views aren't the greatest. I would definitely stay there again.
