Last week, I introduced you to Father Damien and the Kalaupapa Settlement on Molokai. Today, we take a look at one of the four churches that Father Damien built in Hawaii. The photo above shows St. Joseph Church that was established in 1876. You’ll find this well preserved church along East Kamehameha V Highway (HWY 450) on the southeast side of Molokai.
In the following photo, you can see how well kept the interior of the chapel is.
The next photo shows a statue of Father Damien that stands near St. Joseph Church. I hear that the statue is always adorned with a lei.

What great photos. What a heart-warming tribute that is! I was just talking about how I've never been to Molokai and wouldn't know what to do when I got there! Obviously, this is one thing! Thank you, Sheila, this is a great thing to share! I've heard talk recently about his possible canonization. I'm not sure where that stands at the moment, but I'm sure we'll hear about it!

That's interesting about canonization talks. On my visit to Molokai, I could certainly tell that Father Damien was well loved and justifiably so. He really did so much to help the people there.

Can you tell me anything about Our Lady of Sorrows Church on Molokai that was supposed to have been built by Father Damien?
Dorothy - It's still an active church on Molokai and just about 4 miles down the road from St. Joseph Church on Highway 450. (It's located between mile marker 14 and 15.) It was built in 1874.
