Use Google Transit to Help You Navigate Oahu’s Bus System

You can now use Google transit to find your way around Oahu transit system with TheBus. Use this link to begin your search. Not only is Google maps tied into the bus map, but it is also tied into the schedule. So, it can tell you exactly when to be at the bus stop. You can either search by intersection or by address. I tested the system to find my way from the Halekulani Hotel in Waikiki at 2199 Kalia Road to the Polynesian Cultural Center at 55-370 Kamehameha Highway in Laie. Here is the result of the search:

Be sure to click on the “View Larger Map” link to see more options. You can see the detail of the bus stops and get additional departure times.

Using TheBus is a great way to save money instead of paying for a rental car and gas. One way adult fare cost only $2 including transfers. Taking TheBus will also save you the frustration of having to navigate and drive through Honolulu.

Mahalo to Chris for sharing this great new feature.

  • great for hawaii visitors to oahu! this comes handy. there is this love/hate relationship with google but to tell you the truth we don't leave the house w/o our google map when going on vacation, whether hawaiian islands or mainland. mahalo, sheila

  • Technological innovations like these could make riding the bus more attractive option which could help curb the congestion on Oahu's roads.

Another innovation I would like to see is live weather conditions on google maps so you can see if it raining at a particular bus stop in real time.

  • Aloha Pua - Same here! We usually print out a half a dozen Google maps before we head out on vacation. It's always helpful to have detailed directions to the hotel, to scenic sites, to the airport, etc. One thing we've learned is that they are generally accurate, but not always. So, it's usually a good idea to have a back up plan and a good old fashioned paper map on hand.

  • Chistian - I love the way you think outside of the box and incorporating new technologies to solve long time problems. Those are some great ideas!
