Christmas decorations in Hawaii

Christmas decorations in Hawaii blend aloha and tropical themes with traditional favorites. They’re really special to see and enjoy when you visit Hawaii in December. From our visits to Hawaii around the holiday season, we’ve collected quite a few photos of these special Hawaiian-style Christmas decorations. We hope you’ll enjoy browsing through a selection of Christmas decoration photos that we snapped while walking around Waikiki one December day.

Let’s start with a decoration featuring Hawaii’s most iconic musical instrument — the ukulele.

This next photo features a glittery ornament of a Hawaiian quilt pattern. Also, note the tropical orchids.

Christmas decorations in Hawaii also include ocean-based themes. For example, here’s a photo featuring a honu (Hawaiian sea turtle.)

In North America, we don’t tend to use fish ornaments on our Christmas trees, but in Hawaii fish ornaments fit perfectly.

Here’s another fish ornament from the same tree.

Sand is another element that’s not commonly used as a Christmas decoration — except in Hawaii. The Sheraton Waikiki features large Christmas-themed sand sculptures around the holiday season. We like this one of Santa in short sleeves holding his snowflake surfboard.

Where else but in Hawaii would you find a pair of glittery slippahs (flip flops) ornaments that say Mele Kalikimaka? It’s so Hawaii!

Of course, gorgeous tropical flowers are used in many Hawaii Christmas decorations. Here’s a Waikiki tree adorned with an orchid, hibiscus and tropical greenery.

Here’s a view of the entire tee with the tropical flower theme.

On another tree, we found a bird of paradise along with orchids.

Here’s a photo of the entire tree. We like the bird of paradise as a tree topper.

The following silver, blue and white them of this Waikiki Christmas tree is stunning with the white orchids adorning it.

Poinsettias are often used on Hawaiian Christmas decorations. In Hawaii, the weather is warm enough for poinsettias to grow outside. We loved this container with pineapples and poinsettias.

Poinsettia ornaments adorn many Hawaii Christmas trees. The following tree includes glittered poinsettia blooms.

This Christmas tree looks “Hawaiian” with the color scheme and the bold poinsettia ornaments.

Here’s another Christmas tree that looks “Hawaiian” based on the color scheme.

We complete this Christmas photo walk around Waikiki, with a stop at the Royal Grove of the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center. Christmas in Hawaii includes both Christmas trees and palm trees.

We hope you’ve enjoyed this photo collection. Which decorations did you find most surprising? Which ones did you like the most?
