Hawaii Vacation Deals & News Roundup April 2, 2009

It’s time to harvest up another crop of vacation news nuggets.

* The Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel has a great value offer of $119 per night through June. In addition to the special rate, guests also receive free daily breakfast with both hot and cold items, plus a souvenir cooler so that you can take your breakfast on the go. Guests will also receive a coupon book and a voucher for 2-for-1 luau dinner and show. For this deal, you must book by April 10th. See this link for more information. The Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel  is located on Kalakaua Avenue on what I’d describe as the Diamond Head end of Waikiki Beach. Here are some helpful YouTube videos that will give you a good look into this very nice, budget-friendly hotel: Video 1, Video 2.

* The popular Waikiki breakfast restaurant, Eggs n’ Things, has recently reopened after moving to a new location at 343 Saratoga Avenue. (For your reference, the nearest resort is the Hilton Hawaiian Village). Take a look at their menu and you’ll soon see why they are so popular with both locals and visitors. Any restaurant that serves macadamia nut pancakes and coconut pancakes is speaking my language! Are you also fluent in Pancake? 😉 Here’s a vacation time saver tip for you –  bring your postcards with you to Eggs n Things and fill them out while you wait. Then go across the street (330 Saratoga Avenue) to the Waikiki Post Office for postcard stamps and mailing.

* On the Big Island, Fair Wind is offering a Web special. Book a Fair Wind or Hula Kai morning snorkel cruise and receive 50% off a Hula Kai manta dive adventure, whale watch cruise or a Fair Wind afternoon snorkel cruise. This offer is valid through June 30, 2009.

* The Big Island has a new boutique, eco-friendly lodge in North Kohala called Hawaii Island Retreat at Ahu Pohaku Hoomaluhia. . This new 50-acre oceanfront retreat only has eight suites. Take a look at their Web site; it looks gorgeous and truly unique. They are offering special opening rates start from $250 to $450 per night, double occupancy, with a three-night minimum from April 1 to June 30, 2009. The rate includes full breakfast.

Today’s roundup photo is courtesy Go Visit Hawaii reader, Dave, from Oahu. He took this photo of the Hanalei taro fields on his visit to Kauai. Thank you, Dave, for sharing your photo with us! Let me know if you have a Hawaii vacation photo that you’d like to be featured.

  1. Great Picture if I do say so myself! ;^)

BTW – I LOVE Eggs ‘N Things. Great food. Great Service.

  2. Dave – it’s an excellent photo – thanks again!

Have you been to the new Eggs ‘n Things since it reopened? I wonder how the new location is?

  3. No… I haven’t been there yet but I walk past the place every day. One reason why I haven’t eaten there yet is because of the long line. I usually need to eat quick and get back to work. But – I have eaten there before they relocated and I’m sure the food is still the same. I’m also sure the waitresses still wear those strange aprons with a split down the middle and look kind of like Chaps. (?)

Great food! Strange aprons… I need to eat there just so I can send you a picture of the weird aprons. :^)

  4. Just wanted to leave a note and thank you for creating such an excellent resource. I’ve been reading through the site preparing for a first visit coming up in a few weeks and it has been full of great tidbits and advice. Thanks!
