Kaanapali BeachHere are the latest Maui deals to catch my eye.  These are some really good ones, too.

Wailea Grand Champions Villa
The Deal:  $179 for a one-bedroom villa or $196 for a two-bedroom villa plus a free compact rental car.
Why I like this deal: Wailea is one of the higher price tag places to stay with most rooms costing well over $300 per night. This deal is also great because it includes a rental car which will save you around $30 per day.  Plus, you know I’m a big proponent of staying in villa which is the fancier word for condo.  By the way, these villas seem to get high marks from TripAdvisor.
Offer Valid Through:  Book by May 16th for travel between June 1 - September 30 (2008).  There is a 3 night minimum stay.
Special Rate Code: TZMAY08
For More Information: See this link.

Kaanapali Beach Hotel “Maui Spring Sale”
The Deal:
Room and daily buffet breakfast for two for $179 per night.
Why I like this deal: The Kaanapali Beach Hotel is known as “Maui’s Most Hawaiian Hotel” and has won awards for it’s dedication to Hawaiian culture. TripAdvisor guests generally give this hotel great ratings.  If you aren’t sure where to stay on Maui, then Kaanapali makes a great base for a Maui vacation
Offer Valid Through:  You must book before June 15, 2008.  This offer is valid for stays  between now and June 7 and  from August 16 through December 21 (2008)
Special Rate Code:  None specified for this “Maui Spring Sale”.
For More Information:  See this link

Here are some great deals I dug up today.  If you find a really good one, would you consider taking me along?  ;-)

Oahu, Kauai, Maui, Big Island Orbitz Sale
The Deal:  Save 10% or more
Why I like this deal: This sale covers all budgets from 2-star to 5-star hotels.  I was particularly drawn to the 5-star Mauna Lani on the Big Island at a nightly rate of $266 including buffet breakfast for two.  I’ve stayed here and it’s a nice hotel in a wonderful location.
Offer Valid Through:  Book by July 6th for travel by September 30th (2008)
Special Rate Code: SUMMERSALE10
For More Information: See this link to Orbitz

$438 Hawaii September Weekend Getaway
The Deal:  Four nights accommodation and airfare for $438 purchased through Expedia.
Why I like this deal:  It includes airfare!  The catch is you must fly from Los Angeles (LAX), if LAX is not your normal departure airport, consider buying separate roundtrip airfare from your home to LAX.
Offer Valid Through:  It’s valid for September weekend stays only.  You must depart on Thursday and return on Monday.
Special Rate Code:  NA

imageThe Hawaii Entertainment Book is a book of coupons for restaurants, luaus, golf, shopping and more. The 2008 books are currently on sale at $15 which is a $10 savings, plus shipping is free.

I noticed that the book has several 25% discount coupons for luaus. The coupons aren’t for “no name” luaus either. In Oahu, for example I see 25% coupons for two very popular luaus, Paradise Cove and Germaine’s. The book could very quickly pay for itself on a luau coupon alone.

Here’s a secret hint I recently picked up - you can get a free trial with three free coupons. So, a few days before you go on your vacation, go get the free trial. You’ll need to enter the zip code of your destination to get started.

Have you used the Hawaii Entertainment Books on your vacation? Did you think it was worth the price? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

image The Pacific Whale Foundation is offering a free whale whalewatching information station at McGregor Point Lookout. McGregor Point is located just northwest of Maalaea off Honoapilani Highway (HWY 30) in West Maui. (See our interactive Hawaii map to find McGregor Point.) The information station will be staffed by the foundation’s whale naturalist from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. beginning December 15th and going through May 15th.

If you are looking for the best vantage points for watching whales from the shores of Maui, then why not use the same stations that the Pacific Whale Foundation uses for their official whale counts? Here are those stations:

D.T. Fleming Beach by the Ritz Carlton in Kapalua
Pohaku (S-Turns) Park in Kahana
The Maui Marriott Hotel in Kaanapali
Launiopoko Park in Lahaina
The McGregor Point lookout between Lahaina and Maalaea
The Maui Ocean Center at Maalaea Harbor
Pacific Whale Foundation’s offices in Maalaea Harbor
The Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary in North Kihei
The beach by the Kihei Surfside in South Kihei
Makena Beach State Park in Makena

Some other great locations recommended by the Pacific Whale Foundation are:

the Kamaole Parks I, II and III in Kihei and Charlie Young Beach, and the oceanside path in Wailea. You can also see whales from the shoreline at some of Maui’s windward locations such as Hookipa, Hana, Huelo, Maliko Gulch, Sprecklesville and Kapukaulua.

One of my favorite whalewatching vantage points in Maui is from the Plantation House Restaurant in Kapalua. The restaurant sits up high along the coastline for great views of the water and Molokai. We’ve had breakfast, lunch, and dinner there and it has all been excellent.

If you are going on a snorkeling or diving tour near Maui, you may have the opportunity to see whales without having to pay for a whalewatching tour. We took the photo (above left) while on a Molokini snorkeling tour.

If you can’t get to Maui this whale season, then take a virtual whalewatching tour by viewing this video of a mother and calf underwater. Happy whalewatching!

Hawaii Travel Deals

Just wanted to share some recent deals that caught my eye.

Prince Winter Escape Promotion (Maui, Oahu, Big Island)
Hawaii’s high season is in the winter, so it’s great to see a special winter promotion coming available.  Prince Resorts Hawaii is offering their “Winter Escape” for their hotels on Oahu, Maui, and the Big Island.  The offer includes discounted rates and a $100 resort credit.  This offer is valid from January 4th - March 31st.  You can find more about their fall and winter promotions here.  (FYI - if you can make it to Hawaii before December 22nd, you get even better rates and a $150 credit.)

Kapalua Villas (Maui)
One of my favorite places to stay on Maui is in Kapalua.  The resort is offering a “Three for Free” promotion on villa stays from now through December 19th.  The promotion includes a fifth night free, $100 activity credit, and a free pineapple plantation tour.

$29 One-Way Inter-Island Fares with go!
go! airlines is celebrating their 1,000,000th passenger with $29 one-way fares from November 19th through January 21st.  You must purchase your tickets online at www.iflygo.com by November 16th at 11:59 p.m.  Additional taxes and fees apply and there are some blackout dates.

Waikiki and Hana Hotel Deals

From lively area to quiet seclusion and from good value to five-star, there’s a couple of good hotel deals to share with you.

Ohana Waikiki Islander (Oahu)
It’s not often you can find a decent hotel in Hawaii for under $100, but the Ohana Waikiki Islander is offering a deal of $99 per night plus tax. This offer is valid through March 31, 2008.  The hotel is well located in the Waikiki area.  It’s right beside the new Waikiki Beach Walk.  This deal is called a “renovation special”.  The hotel is being spruced up, plus the Waikiki Beach Walk is growing with new restaurants and shops.  To see what recent guests have to say about their stay with Ohana Waikiki Islander, see these TripAdvisor reviews.

Hana Hotel (Maui)
The secluded Hana Hotel has a couple of fall and winter deals.  Book a room in one of their two most popular room categories and enjoy daily full American breakfast for two. You can save up to $170 per night.  The Bay Cottage Junior Suites are $395 per night plus tax and the Ocean View Sea Ranch Cottage rooms are $495 per night plus tax.  In addition, you can take advantage of their upgrade special between November 1st and December 22nd.  The upgrade special will put you in a Deluxe Ocean View Sea Ranch Cottage when you book an Ocean View Sea Ranch Cottage.  The Hana Fall Escape deal is valid through December 22, 2007, excluding November 20–25, 2007.  The Hana Winter Escape offer is valid from January 3–15, 2008.  For availability, call 800-321-HANA.  For TripAdvisor reviews of Hotel Hana, click here.

image US Airways has announced some great fares to Hawaii from all across the US Mainland.  One way fares are as low as $182.  It seems like the East Coast folks have been snubbed with some of the recent fare deals, but this sale includes East coast departures as well.  For example, the Charlotte (CLT) to Honolulu (HNL) flight is $278 one way. For details and restrictions, click here.

Don’t forget that Kauai hotels are also on sale this fall and there are big deals for the Big Island.  If you’re dreaming of that perfect Hawaii vacation, this fall is a great time to save money.
