Aloha Friday Photo: Hawaii honeymoon memories from 1982

Mahalo to Alan Lehman from Australia for sharing this black sand beach photo with us for Aloha Friday Photos. He took this photo in 1982 on his honeymoon to Hawaii. Though Alan didn’t mention where this black sand beach is, our guess is that it’s probably Punalu’u on Hawaii, the Big Island.

Here’s some of what Alan shared about his trips and love of Hawaii:

I first visited Hawaii in early 1970 with the Australian Navy.  I loved the place so much, that when I got married, my wife (Elaine) and I went to the Islands for our Honeymoon.  We went to several of the the Islands, Maui, Kauai, Hawaii and Oahu.  We did the usual tourist things, tours, Polynesian Cultural Center, the markets in Kalakaua Avenue and the volcanoes etc.  One standout was a night out with Al Harrington (The South Pacific Man) which included dancing, a lovely Hawaiian meal and of course Al Harrington entertaining us with his band.  A great night. On Oahu we stayed in the Outrigger East.  30 years later, we went back to Hawaii and visited Maui and Oahu.  On Oahu we stayed at our old hotel, (Outrigger East) but now it has been refurbished and name changed to Ohana Outrigger East.  Such a vast difference in Hawaii over 30 years.  We have been back again in 2012 and just stayed on Oahu, but had a wonderful time… my wife and I will go back a fourth time.  We really love Hawaii.

Thanks for sharing your memories with us, Alan!

Happy Aloha Friday!
