Longing for Lanai

Lanai

When folks find out that I’m a Hawaii travel writer, they usually ask me which island is my favorite. My response is that  I love them all for their unique scenery and personalities. With that said, there is one island that I find to be the most relaxing. Without a doubt, that’s the island of Lana’i. Just take a look at this view of the pool and Hulopoe Bay from the Four Seasons Lana’i at Manele Bay and you’ll likely see why I love the serenity that I’ve found here.

I’ll soon be headed back to Lanai for some much needed rest and relaxation. After surviving an ice storm in Western North Carolina over Christmas, I’m almost giddy with the anticipation of kicking back on Lanai and savoring this warm view over and over again. Can you blame me?

Bummer! – Ice storms are the worst. You do sound like you need a vacation.

Hey Dave – we’ll wave to you from the HNL airport. :)

The ice storm was both amazing and terrifying at the same time. Looking out the window was like watching an action film. As the weight of the ice snapped trees and limbs, the sound effect was like that of shooting guns.

Lana’i is definitely on our Hawaii travel list. We also find Moloka’i to be relaxing although there’s not a resort like the Four Seasons located there. I hope you’ll be reporting more on Lana’i.

Glad you survived the ice storm. They are scary!

Donna – I think you hit the nail on the head describing one of the key differences between Molokai and Lanai. They both feel remote and beacon you to slow down and savor your surrounds. However, on Lanai, you savor in swank digs. :-)

There are only three hotels on the entire island of Lanai and two of those are Four Seasons. In my opinion, they are two of the better luxury values in all of Hawaii.

Since I know we’re both Regent Mariner fans, I think you’d like Lanai.
