Video: 360 Degrees at Kauai’s Tunnels Beach

Here’s a video Andy filmed from Tunnels Beach on Kauai’s North Shore.  Andy makes a complete circle so that you can see the cliffs behind the beach as wall as the full beach.

One little interesting tidbit to point out in this video is that you can see the clouds gathering at the cliffs while the beach has mostly clear blue skies. This area of Kauai is the windward side where the trade winds blow in moisture that gets trapped in the mountains. Read more about the windward and leeward phenomenon in Hawaii.

  1. Oops! It’s Haena Beach Park, not Tunnels. Easy to tell by the lifeguard stand, the bathroom, the camping, and the The Dry Cave across the street.

  2. Thanks for your comment, Gary.

Hmmm… I thought for sure this beach matched up with this one: http://www.flickr.com/photos/govisithawaii/2986655259/in/set-72157600056337793/ And it even looks like the the back of the sign is in the video. Hmmm.

Either way, I hope you’ll appreciate that it’s a nice Kauai North Shore beach video that we took the time to film, load, and to share here for the folks that don’t have the benefit of being in Hawaii on this winter day.

  3. Jumping in as official videographer. 🙂

You’re both right. The video is shot from Haena Beach Park, but Tunnels beach is shown as the camera pans to the right. The beach is 2 miles long and ends at Haena Beach Park.

  4. @ Andy – Yay! Mystery solved! Many mahalos for clearing up the confusion! I know my memory isn’t always correct and the Good Lord knows I’ve been wrong before, but I was pretty sure it was Tunnels Beach.

  5. Nice! – Looks very private and peaceful… Not very many people on the beach. Nice waves. What more could you want?

  6. @ Dave – one of the surprises to me is that many beaches in Hawaii look the same way – private and peaceful- year-round. We took this video on a Sunday when you would have thought it would be really busy with people.
