imageThe new Koa Kea Hotel and Resort plans to open August 29, 2008. The 121 room boutique resort is located on Kauai’s sunny Poipu Beach. The introduction of this new Kauai hotel is well timed as the Princeville Resort is closing in September for renovations.

Though the resort isn’t open, they are accepting reservations. I quickly checked the rates for the off-peak time of October and the lowest price was $445 per night for a garden view room. We’ll keep an eye on special offers here.

$445! Wow… how does that compare to other places on the island? When we went we stayed at a timeshare that was given to us as a wedding gift, it sounds like we may have been spoiled!

Jim - I’m glad that rate jumped out at you like it did to me. A rate of $445 per night is more than twice the island’s average hotel rate. Without knowing all the amenities of the hotel, it’s hard to say if that price is justified. I’m hoping those are just rack rates that no one will ever pay.

Yeah, that did seem high considering that’s like Waikiki rates…
