The upcoming issue of Travel + Leisure will feature the Great American Beaches listed by categories like secret sands, people watching, nature escapes, swimming spots, and fun for everyone.  Two Hawaii beaches have made the list. 

Kauai’s Hanakapiai Beach is mentioned in the nature escapes category. This beautiful beach is flanked by two cliffs and is accessible by hiking the first two miles of the Kalalua Trail along the Na Pali Coast.   Read our suggestions for hiking to Hanakapiai Beach. 

Maui’s Waianapanapa Black-Sand Beach was listed in the secret sands category.  The colors at this black sand beach makes it so vibrant.  The blue water in contrast with the green shrubs in contrast with the black sand is just beautiful!  You can find this beach off the road to Hana. 

Though these two beaches are beautiful and were recognized by Travel + Leisure as being the best, don’t feel bad if you can’t get to these two beaches on your vacation as there are many beautiful beaches across the islands of Hawaii.
